We amended question rep on meta so it is in line with the rest of the sites. So now, upvotes on questions are worth 5 points. Additionally, we are planning another change to rep that restricts the amount of rep you can get from questions only, see: Should we cap reputation gained from questions...

Meta SO has always been it's own beast with it's own special rules, there's no need to change it. There wasn't a problem on Meta with people having too much rep from questions. I really agree with badp's comment.

What does piss me off is this simple calculation

I had 10k

I now have 8k

This means I have 6k from answers and 2k from questions

I had 7k, even if you take into account the 200 I would lose from a recalc, that's still around 1.8k lost :(

I had two 30+ upvote questions, so yeah, that did hurt

so, that gives me an allowance of 3.5k rep from questions

If nothing else it should be answers worth +5 and questions worth +10 on MSO... but meh.

I guess that at some point, we'll have meta.SO with SO's reputation (and SO only stuff) and meta.SE with the combined network reputation

so all of this will be completely moot at the end

Thank goodness I can still get into this chat room after the recalc. It was close.

I'm not sure what fairness has to do with it, I find that most of my Meta type comments are generic, so they fit better on Meta SO. I worked the boardgame Meta a little last week, because of specific issues. The traffic is too light on the other Meta's to be interesting, and I think some of that is because they don't have the rep incentive to keep activity there. I know it's sad that rep on meta is an incentive in the first place, but that's humanity for you.

The main argument against serialized data is that serialized data are hard to search through and impossible to do so efficiently i.e., without retrieving the records in the first place.
