Why are replies no longer highlighted in the transcript?

@balpha Chrome 15.whatever, trying to read the backlog in here, but it's difficult to see which messages are being replied to. Hovering over a reply doesn't highlight the original message.

@balpha this isn't working for me. had left chat open on a different comp and notifications definitely were not cleared here when I cleared them elsewhere.

@RebeccaChernoff different computer doesn't count; same browser only. this all works locally; I don't want to create tons of extra network traffic just for a few people with split personality :)
