Yes, you can trust it. It is non-intrusive and all it does (at minimum) is manage your games and patches for you. Anything else is optional.

One such example which I learned from this answer is that you can chrono-boost your Warp Gates to reduce their cooldown. Another is when summoning MULEs, if you summon it directly to a mineral patch it will start mining.

Technically, a better start would be to determine what symbols/words you want to use
Then draw a circle big enough to fit all of them. Put them at roughly the points you want, erase the parts of the circle that would be overlapped, and finally add some fancy triangles
One thing you'll come to learn, @tzenes, is that nothing excites me as much as powerful long ranged artillery
So while I personally find the Protoss cooler than Terran, just for siege tanks and knowing how to properly use them, I'd probably end up as the latter.
