What is pinned?

there was a lot of confusion about starring...

was it for cool stuff? or for important stuff? The two are not necessarily the same...

the tendency was to use stars as "popular" (like upvotes); pinning is reserved to the room owner (or should be ;p let me know if it isn't), and is a different type of vote for a post.

the pinned items (I've pinned yours) a: rank above the stars in that view, and b: are controlled by the room owner(s)

(I'll grant you, it should be in the FAQ too)

so basically a super star for room owner (to put it in one trite phrase)

This also now means we have deprecated the ability for owners to star their own messages. It is no longer required. other people decide if it is popular

yes. If you are a room owner.

(let me know if you are seeing that option but you aren't the room owner)

I would have left the option to star your own messages available

as they are different

the "1" (or n) number overlapping my avatar here in the left of this textbox doesn't go away when the flag is cleared until I refresh the whole page /cc @MarcGravell

yes, I noticed that too. Did you clear the flag, or did you delete the offending item?

I didn't do it, someone else did

now it cleared

that was me, then. I think it is a problem when deleting.

Is the feeds ticker always visible? If I'm in another room when the feed announces, does that show in my Other Rooms listing? And if I then switch to that room will I see it?

(From yesterday it seems the answer is no to all 3...but even when in the room when it was supposed to announce it didn't become visible)

@balpha would know the answer to that - I don't know off the top of my head, so I won't make it up. I really have gotta run, though.

@MarcGravell Erm. Great. Sometimes being a moderator sucks.

[bug] Marking a chat room as 'favourite' doesn't seem to "take" all the time. For instance if I go to GIS and mark it fav there (grey star, top right corner), it doesn't show up under favs here, yet if I go to All and filter for GIS, then mark fav from there it does work.

@MarcGravell Actually all I see is a faded old room, and nowhere to click.

Feature request: acknowledge pins so that, just for you, they no longer are on top of the starred list

@balpha Possible Bug: Moderator notification is showing -1 mod flags after clearing the flag.

A negative mod flag count is the sign of an awesome mod (flag)!

Very minor bug. There is no visual difference between a pinned message and a pinned message with one star in the starred list.

Is it known that the starred items go out partially of view when you click Show 5 More Items?

Seems the view grows with it and the scrollbar is then partially obscured

I can click on a Star to Star and remove that star from a post. Shouldn't I be able to pin something the same way?

my vote would be "no" -- pins are reserved for "things someone in the room should know", not something that constantly get's turned on/off

so I'd say requiring two mouseclicks is appropriate

The blue circle on my icon showing that there are tags won't go away.

I came back from lunch and clicked on it, went to an empty flag page, but the flag circle won't leave.

There is a bug on my list if the flagged message is deleted - no new flag event is sent. I'll investigate tomorrow.

Does it go if you reload?

I'll also add some tooltips :)

Overzealous Admins

I feel that the admins are being too overzealous in closing questions for being "Subjective" or "too localized" at the slightest hint of subjectivity or locality playing a role. Here's some recent examples of what I mean:
