It has a Linux side also.

Handle issues that come up that the mods want extra eyes on, look over meta to see if there are any interesting proposals that the team should consider, look for weird stuff like traffic dropping precipitously.

@hichris123 I wonder if that includes messages in the team or mod chatrooms that are also technically on the MSO chat.

They go into a spreadsheet. I look at the site and see if they're actually SCRAPERs; occasionally, we get reports from well-meaning users about sites that are using SE content appropriately. If they don't follow our terms, I try to get in touch with them to get them to play by the rules. The vast majority of the time, they don't respond. When their contact information is even valid in the first place.

So basically most of the time nothing happens?

For a while. We can go after hosting providers in some cases, or encourage users to file DMCA requests, but that's got a poor work-to-reward ratio.

Seems like a lot of work to get almost nothing out of it.

I have gotten rid of a couple. I've noticed that they tend to collapse on their own in many cases.

Their model depends on getting a lot of ad views (at least as far as I can tell) and it's hard to beat us with our own content.

So I just gave them money. :P

So how do you get in touch with them?

Sometimes they post e-mail addresses or other contact info on their sites. Other times, they have "contact us" forms. A lot of times, I have to do WHOIS lookups.

Have you ever gotten someone to stop by contacting them? Or did you actually have to DMCA/go after hosting providers?

My average day involved walking in, noticing one of the machines was off, and asking the other supervisor "Why aren't we using that one?" I'd receive a reply along the lines of "It's not working properly," go over to the machine and push a few buttons, and it would be working fine.
