As for the honking, that drives me crazy. I live right next to both a station and a railway crossing, and regularly the railway crossing breaks which means trains will have to honk all day...
Other times I'm trying to sleep and someone tries to catch a late train by crossing the closed crossing (and the trains will honk in warning)
I sleep with the window open... but even if it's closed there's this gap for 'ventilation' that lets in a load of outside noise. I'm convinced it wasn't properly installed when this place was built or is the cheapest version out there with no regards for noise cancelling or something.
I can close it and there'll be less noise, but still some.

Yeah, I wish I could've gotten a better system with a heat exchanger... now I am technically not allowed to close these rosters or turn off the fan but I do it all the time just to keep the worst cold out in winter and the heat out in summer.

There's a proper chance I'm getting solar panels and an airconditioner though, so at least in summer that will mean less fuss about the heat. And I can live with those 2-3 actually cold days/nights :P
@Zoeisonstrike Those are even worse massive power users though! XD I'd rather invest in some good stuff to keep the heat out then (outside screens, thick curtains inside, that kinda stuff) if you don't have those yet)

I've been 'stuck' with dynamic pricing ever since I moved in... and since the high peaks, any time you think 'oh, the average is finally going down again' some ass somewhere starts another war, gas prices surge, and as a result electricity prices too
Last two days electricity has been 9 cents on average (without taxes and such), days before that it was like 6 or 7 on a 'bad' (little solar or wind) day.
I don't mean fixed price per kilowatt to be clear, I mean I pay like 300 NOK per month regardless of how much I use. I live in student housing though, so this is an exception to the exception of dynamic pricing
Oh well either (fixed price per kilowatt or per month as some kind of 'service' charge) is equal to me ;)
Both exist here, you can have a years-old contract with an energy supplier (e.g. 5 years old) for a fixed price per kWh, or pay whomever you're renting from a fixed price (as determined in your rent contract)
@Tinkeringbell They used to be more common here, but after the power cost crisis, most providers have switched to varying prices
We also have this thing where the government subsidises part of the power cost when it exceeds a certain amount per kilowatt as a result of that
I fucking hate that system, because it both incentivises continued high power use, and for anyone still on a fixed price per kilowatt plan actually earn money by using power when costs are high because of a technicality
Power prices went up because our water reservoirs for hydropower (which is most of our power supply) dropped too far. The way to fix this is reducing power demand, which increased prices did. But it also strained people's economy, so they ended up paying people to continue using the same amount of power, while recommending using less. It's a really bad system
If you have solar panels connected to the grid at a fixed plan, wouldn't that mean the power company can buy some power for cheaper than other power, and still sell it at the dynamic price?
System here is broken too, we have too many houses with solar panels and some kind of "every kWh you don't use goes back onto the grid and you either get to balance that with a kWh you use when your solar panels don't do anything OR even sell it as a surplus when there's nothing to balance against"...
But due to the massive amount of panels, actual dynamic prices go negative at times the sun shines... And its of course massively unincentivizing for large companies to have to pay for something at the end of the year they couldn't dynamically sell with a profit first...
So yeah, no supplier actually wants a customer with solar panels that they may have to pay a set price for surplus solar energy, so they're only offering those dynamic pricing ones (where the customer would be "selling" to the supplier at a loss) and/or adding insane "service charges"
