Q: Upgrade from 10.04 to 10.10 lost MBR

I think I've lost my MBR upgrading from ubuntu 10.04 to 10.10. During the upgrade it gave me a message saying which partitions did I want the grub details to go on, saying if I was unsure to select all of them. After reboot I just end up in a grub recovery console. The system was a dual boot w...

I've run some script called boot info that says it should be pasted in a forum.

Boot sector info: Grub 2 is installed in the boot sector of sda3/Wubi
and looks at sector 21294336 of the same hard drive
for core.img, but core.img can not be found at this
location.
Mounting failed:
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/loop1,
missing codepage or helper program, or other error
In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
dmesg | tail or so

@wes Well, basically what you need to do is reconfigure grub so that it's pointing to the correct partition. It seems that it's looking in the wrong place right now. Can you determine which partition has the Ubuntu installation on it?

@GeorgeMarian @TheMountainException installed lilo now everything boots. Okay lilo sends me to grub or to windows and grub gives me an error about invalid background colour but at least my machine works

So the folks in Australia, aside from being ridiculously offset from the equator, have a ridiculous offset from GMT as well. Combine that with a bug fix for "negative" suntimes, and... You have sunset occurring at 39:40. (NOT even military time.)

As Andy E's head mentioned, I've started to create an IRC interface for the SO chat. The current state of the code is on Github: http://github.com/ghewgill/soirc It's all ugly, nascent, fragile code right now but I expect that will improve in time.
