I haven't given git a try. Subversion works for me, so I stick with what I know

If Linus wants to write XMPP for SO chat, he can svn checkout and git whatever himself ;-)

But HG is really nice, and the UI is quite similar to SVN -- don't start with git if you want to check out DVCS. I found the switch from SVN to HG quite easy.

and it's not even the ubiquitous "you can code on an airplane" argument

it just feels like a better way of doing version control, once you get used to it
