Weird. I almost downvoted instantly when I it was first posted (because I thought it was pedantic - it had only been 10 days since he stepped down). Then I realized that that was silly. For the same reasons you mentioned =) Just imagine if I had left out that follow-up "thinking". There would be 9 downvotes to bug you!
mmyers is correct, as usual. I would have said so earlier, but I don't talk to terrible people, or really interact with them in any way.
The good news in cases like this is that the heuristic was probably only tripped by a small amount; a few reasonable and/or starred chat messages, and non-terrible status can be restored.

@LynnCrumbling That's exactly the right thing to do =) If you flag one of there posts with a custom reason indicating that you think they are a sockpuppet (and link to the suspected sock), that will usually take care of the problem.
I have to head out for the evening, but one last question... on a broader scope, is there anything that can be done to send a stronger message to this person? (and perhaps, @amanaPlanaCAnalPAnaMA's post on meta is the answer to this question)
