Imagine a computer user who had a bunch of photos on their computer. The computer got destroyed in the tornado. The pictures are gone.
I want to make a service that lets them upload their photos to a webserver, and allows them to share the photos and even upload them to other sites like Facebook (I'll write an app for that later)

It's intended right now for a private audience, so I have to figure out what to do to manage that ... I don't know if 2GB is good or if they each need 20GB or what. Disks get larger every day. By the time this is ready, 20GB may be easy to give away for free.

I only intend to target pictures. I realize that people will want to abuse the system, but I will figure out how to block that in the future. I want to tackle the larger problems now, how to sync folders, how to run the program, setup a basic webserver to accept the files, how to store them on the server, etc.
The problem I have with dropbox is that people have to put the files or folders in the dropbox folder. This is going to be aimed at less than tech-savvy users, so I'm kinda anti-specific folder right now
@TylerChacha yeah, I plan on having a list of selectable folders, and the default will be just that, a default. Otherwise they can add to or remove from that list at will.
I plan on having options for "sync with server on remove" etc.
And honestly, as much as I'd love to have 20k rep, Editing Tag Wikis just isn't that exciting..
20k you get the ability to edit them yourself
Which is something I never understood. If someone suggests an edit, I should be able to 1-click approve them, since I have to ability to edit it myself..
I could just click 'Improve' and do nothing and achieve the same result..
@drachenstern I was happy over 3k then at some point I noticed I was over 5 and decided to "go for 10" It hasn't happened as quickly as I'd like. Seems they want me to do real work.
If you come across vagueness on stuff like that, it's almost always on purpose. You can always come here and pester @RebeccaChernoff if you want more details.
@SankarGanesh it's not so much a formality thing in the US as just another indirect noun-reference. If it were formal, it would be as this: "Sir Sankar". When it is "glad to see you too sir" it's informal.
Additionally Sankar, I appreciate your enthusiasm, but it's not necessary to post on our local meetup just to show that you recognize that I posted there, especially when I personally posted that link in this room (and linked it to someone else as well)

I only construct mobiles with one horizontal. I have a feeling (but I haven't proven it) that the optimal mobile under the given conditions actually always does only have one horizontal.
